Well, it’s official! The ice cream man is no longer banned in Scottsdale. As we previously reported, in April of this year the Scottsdale City Council voted in favor of Leo’s Law. Leo’s Law lifted a ban stemming from the 1970s that prohibited ice cream trucks from serving within the city limits. And, on October 24th, Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane issued the first ice cream truck license since then to Leo’s Ice Cream. He also did the honor of purchasing the first “legal” ice cream from Sydney, owner of Leo’s Ice Cream. Ice cream trucks have always been allowed by invitation only on private properties in Scottsdale and, although that’s Leo’s specialty — corporate parties and special events, Syd says, “There are a lot of kids in Scottsdale that have never seen an ice cream truck before. They get so excited when they see us rolling down the street. And, I’m excited that Leo’s Law makes it possible for them to have this all-time favorite childhood experience.”
